David Byrne exhibit
has ended.

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is converting our beautiful landmark building into a giant musical instrument. Beginning May 31st, visitors to New York's Battery Maritime Building will be able to participate in Byrne's interactive music installation called "Playing the Building".

This 140,000 sq. ft. Beaux-Arts landmark building was completed in 1909 and accommodated ferries traveling to 39th Street in Brooklyn. It was originally paired with a twin, the Staten Island Terminal. The Brooklyn ferry service shut down in 1938, and since then the building has seen various city tenants. view from New York Harbor detail of original facade
