Summer 2014  gateway to Governor's Island

Governor's Island opens to the public May 24, 2014 through September 28, 2014 seven days a week at 10:00 AM each day. The Island closes at 6:00 PM weekdays, and 7:00 PM weekends, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

2014 brings the opening of 30 acres of new park spaces on the Island. To help fund this increase, GI will introduce a fare for Brooklyn and Manhattan ferries of $2 round trip on all weekday ferries and afternoon ferries on Saturdays and Sundays. Children will continue to ride free and senior citizens’ fares will be half price. Morning ferries on Saturdays and Sundays will continue to be free.

The Battery Maritime Building  gateway to historic Manhattan

This 140,000 sq. ft. Beaux-Arts landmark building was completed in 1909 when ferries were still a vital means of transportation in New York City. Its many unique architectural assets include nearly 8,800 elements of cast iron, riveted rolled steel plates and angles, sheet copper ornamentations, ceramic tile and stucco paneled walls, and a copper panel mansard roof system.
